Dimitri Contominas

Dimitri Contominas (Dimitris Kontominas) has been one of the leading Greek entrepreneurs since the 1960s. He has been actively engaged across a multitude of industries both in Greece and abroad, primarily through the DEMCO Group of Companies, a highly diversified Group, of which he is the majority shareholder and Chairman.

He founded insurance company Alico in 1963, but became a household name through Interamerican, an insurance company that he founded in 1969 and changed the Greek insurance market forever through the introduction of innovative products and a customer-centric approach. He exited Interamerican in 2005 after securing its strategic partnership with insurance giant Achmea (formerly Eureko). He has since returned to the insurance market through the establishment of Prime Insurance in Cyprus and Greece and My Direct, an online insurer.

Dimitri Contominas has also been active for many years in the banking sector where together with French UAP (now part of AXA), he founded Interbank in Greece in 1987. In 1999, together with Portuguese BCP he established NovaBank in Greece, later knows as Millenium bcp.

 He is currently owner of the Alpha Media Group which is one of the leading TV, radio and production groups in Greece, while in 2009 he acquired Village Roadshow Operations and Village Films, the Greek subsidiaries of Australian entertainment giant Village Roadshow.

Dimitri Contominas is also actively engaged in corporate philanthropy, recognized for his charitable work by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Metropolis of Chalcedon, while in 2002 he was awarded with the Comenda do Infante D. Henrique medal by the Portuguese Republic. He is a graduate of the American University of Beirut and is an avid collector of art and rare books. Part of his collection has been hosted by the National Library, Athens.
